Last season was extremely difficult for Barcelona, but one of the few bright points was the emergence of several exciting youth players. The two high-profile examples were Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, who have become key players for the Catalan giants at the ages of 16 and 17 respectively.

Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal are now official first-team squad members. Previously registered with the U19s and Barça Atlètic respectively, the two Blaugrana have been full members of the FC Barcelona first-team squad since Tuesday.

Pau Cubarsí played 24 competitive games with the first team last season. His debut came on Jan 18 2024, a few days before his 17th birthday during a Copa del Rey game away to Unionistas, and he has earned his spot in the starting eleven ever since. He is one of the Blaugrana players who will feature at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

Lamine Yamal played no fewer than fifty games for the first team last season, scoring seven goals. Also just a few days from his 17th birthday, he is proving a key player for Spain at Euro 24.

The two teenagers are expected to continue as starters under the new management of Hansi Flick, and it’s expected that they will do so with new squad numbers. That’s because Barcelona have announced that Lamine Yamal and Cubarsi have been registered with La Liga as first-team players.

Cubarsi had previously been registered as a member of Barcelona’s U19s, while Lamine Yamal was tied to Barca Atletic. They will now start the first of many seasons to come as official members of the first team.

It will be interesting to see if they do take new squad numbers at Barcelona, and if so, which one. Lamine Yamal, who currently wears 27, has been linked with the iconic no.10 jersey, which is currently in the possession of Ansu Fati. Cubarsi, current holder of the no.33, could wear 2, which was previously held by Joao Cancelo.
