On this day in 2018, Ronaldo scored THAT hat-trick vs Spain in World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a dramatic late free-kick to complete his first World Cup hat-trick and rescue a point for Portugal after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Spain in Sochi.
The former Real Madrid forward continues to write his own scripts with another superb performance, which single-handedly earned Portugal a point against Spain.

The records continue to tumble for Ronaldo, who became the oldest hat-trick scorer in World Cup history, with the Portuguese star aged 33 years and 130 days. It beats the previous record, which was Rob Rensenbrink in June 1978 for the Netherlands against Iran
On this day in 1992, Egyptian King Mo Salah was born
Salah returned to the Premier League in order to sign for Liverpool for a then club-record fee of £36.9 million. Salah received the Premier League Golden Boot after registering a record 32 goals in 36 league games. His record-breaking performances saw him receive a number of other accolades. Salah also came third in the award for the 2018 Best FIFA Men's Player.
The following season he was joint recipient of the Premier League Golden Boot with 22 goals, and in the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final he opened the scoring as Liverpool won 2–0.
A quick, mobile, hard-working and tactical player, with good technique and an eye for goal, Salah is predominantly known for his speed, movement, clinical finishing, agility, dribbling skills, first touch, and ball control, as well as his ability to use both his pace and flair on the ball in order to beat opponents, and create scoring opportunities for himself or his teammates.
On this day in 1969, Bayern legend Kahn was born
Kahn moved to Bayern Munich for a fee of €2,385,000--a record at the time for a goalkeeper--and remained there for the rest of his career.
In 1996, he won his first piece of team silverware, the UEFA Cup, followed a few months later by winning that year's European Championship as Germany's starting keeper. He then added to his collection with eight Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, the 2001 UEFA Champions League trophy.

In the 2002 World Cup, Kahn captained Germany, keeping five clean sheets and surrendering only a single goal as they advanced to the World Cup Final. Although they lost to Brazil, 2-0, Kahn became the first goalkeeper in history to win the Golden Ball award as the tournament's best player.
On this day in 1964, Former Barca & Juve star Michael Laudrup was born
During his playing career, Laudrup won league titles with Ajax, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus, playing mainly as an attacking midfielder, although he was also capable of playing in other offensive positions. A world class playmaker, he was a member of Johan Cruyff's "Dream Team" at Barcelona, where he won nine trophies, including four successive La Liga titles from 1991 to 1994 and the European Cup in 1992. Laudrup moved to arch-rivals Real Madrid in 1994, with whom he won his fifth La Liga title in a row.
On this day in 2010, North Korea score vs Brazil in the World Cup
Playing with a back line of five defenders, they prevented the Brazilians from getting a good look at the goal.
Brazil finally cracked the defence in the second half, however, with Maicon scoring in the 55th minute, then Elano doubling the lead seventeen minutes later. North Korea's Ji Yun-Nam got a goal in the 89th minute for a final scoreline of 2-1.
On this day in 2017, Maguire joined Leicester City
On 15 June 2017, Maguire signed for Premier League club Leicester City on a five-year contract for an initial £12 million fee, potentially rising to £17 million with add-ons. He made his debut on 11 August as the season began with a 4–3 loss at Arsenal, and eight days later he scored his first goal for the Foxes, heading in Riyad Mahrez's corner to conclude a 2–0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium. He played in every minute of the 2017–18 season and was awarded player of the season, as well as players' player of the season at the club's end of season awards.
On this day in 1975, Pele debuted for New York Cosmos
His debut came at New York's Randall Island ground, which was unprepared for the attention. When CBS announced that they would broadcast the game, the club spray-painted the dirt patches green so they would not show up on television. But Pelé delivered, scoring with an assist from Mordechai Shpigler, then returning the favor as Shpigler added a second to earn the 2-2 draw.
