Premier League clubs could reportedly get the use of five substitutes if they end up having to endure a fixture pile-up to complete the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
The Sun claim that the league are considering implementing the temporary rule change after it was put forward by top flight teams earlier this month.
The idea is that it will help protect stars from burn-out and injuries with players returning from a long lay-off into a packed schedule.
And now a Fifa proposal to introduce the short-term measure has been made - with the four Home Nations having to decide if it should be approved worldwide.
If approved it will then be decided between the 20 Premier League sides if they want to adopt it for the rest of the season.
While teams would be allowed to make two more changes than usual they would still only have three windows each in which to do so during a game.
There is still no guarantee as to whether or not this season will be completed with the government non-committal when it comes to the relaxing of the lockdown, which has now been in place for five weeks.
Most top-flight clubs had nine games remaining in the league when the coronavirus crisis meant the season had to be paused in mid march.
Liverpool are runaway leaders but there is the possibility that the pandemic could rob them of a long-awaited 19th league title.

for me the ideal is so good and not just for now but make it permanent because I have been thinking of this for long, 3 sub is too small but 5 or 6 is OK so that some players always on the bench can participate thanks so much

The reason 4 using 5 subs iz 2 allow players rest, since matches will be compacted after Corona.( 2 or 3 ) matches in every week.if possible let dem increase 2 seven subs. Infact, players are likely 2 get many injuries...

There is no harm if the play the matches behind closed door.. All the players won't shake hand..And there is a lot of time to play all the matches as the Euro have been postponed.. By the way, Liverpool deserve to win the league

They should allow 5 subs in finals imo. Leave it 3 subs till finals cos when a final is tense and goes into extra time, then allow 2 more subs during ET. That's the fairest way. More times than not the ideas these guys come up with end up backfiring even if they sound good. We thought VAR will correct the game, instead it's become another means to cheat as its operated by a person.

Well I hope it stays temporary, yes it would be a good thing to have more than 3 subs Cz sometimes a player gets injured and his team had used all the subs but this would be good but we don’t want to be like basketball it’s fun this way let’s hope it stays temporarily.
