A Danny Ings brace helped secure victory for Southampton in the first south coast derby in seven years.
Ings fired the Premier League side ahead against the run of play in the first half before dinking home from close range on the stroke of half time.
Cedric Soares made sure of the victory and passage into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup late on, before substitute Nathan Redmond added a fourth.
