Puyol hails 'rock & roll' Reds - THINGS YOU MISSED from Liverpool win

  /  autty

Roberto Firmino hit a hat-trick. Mohamed Salah hit a brace. Liverpool produced yet another statement win to boost their title prospects.

Arsenal took the lead but soon collapsed under wave after wave of Liverpool pressure and Unai Emery will be left scratching his head as to how his side shipped five in a dent to their top four hopes.

Here, Sportsmail brings you six things that may have passed you by during the goal-fest at Anfield...

Thomas Bjorn at Anfield with Ryder Cup

Anfield is the place to be right now.

Liverpool are exciting to watch under Jurgen Klopp and are in pole position to claim their first ever Premier League title.

But while they continue to work tirelessly to finish the season with some silverware, Europe's Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn, a big Liverpool fan, made the trip to Merseyside and brought with him the Ryder Cup trophy.

For Liverpool fans, hopefully not the last piece of silverware presented at Anfield this season.

Maitland-Niles breaks 18-month goal duck

When it comes to goals for Arsenal, the onus and expectation lands at the feet of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

But it was a surprise source that gave them an early lead in the late kick-off as wing-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles netted his first goal in 18 months.

He was at Ipswich on loan back then but he was in the right place at the right time to convert a sumptuous cross from Alex Iwobi.

Shame for Arsenal fans it rapidly went downhill afterwards...

Broadcasters love Liverpool and Arsenal

If the 2018-19 season has taught us anything so far it is that broadcasters love showing Liverpool and Arsenal.

When the two went head-to-head on Saturday night at Anfield they produced a six-goal thriller that absorbed football fans watching around the country.

But a television appearance is becoming relatively commonplace for Jurgen Klopp and Unai Emery's sides as a breakdown revealed they are the two most televised sides in the Premier League so far this season.

Both have been shown 15 times so far from the opening 19 matches.

Liverpool's title rivals Manchester City have been shown on 10 occasions ahead of their trip to Southampton on Sunday.

Puyol loves 'rock and roll' Liverpool

It is hard not to be impressed with Liverpool these days.

They are dynamic going forward and rock solid at the back which has seen them win plaudits far and wide with Barcelona legend Carlos Puyol the latest to rave about Klopp's charges.

During a frantic first half which saw Liverpool score four goals, the former Barca defender tweeted: 'OMG Liverpool...' before later adding 'I Love rock & roll #Liverpool'.

He may have worked under Pep Guardiola at the Nou Camp but Puyol has a case of Anfield fever.

People rave about Alisson's pass before fourth goal

Firmino and Salah will rightly take the plaudits after a masterclass against a wounded Gunners.

But fans were left picking their jaws up from the floor as they reflected on the impact of goalkeeper Alisson Becker before the Reds netted their fourth on the day.

His pinpoint delivery from his hands out wide to Firmino leaves Arsenal exposed within seconds of them being on the attack and Salah raced clear of Sokratis to win a penalty which he duly converted.

One fan even labelled him a goalkeeping Xabi Alonso...

Touches at a premium for Aubameyang

He has been in electric form of late but Aubameyang had a nightmare on Merseyside.

The Gabonese had just 13 touches before coming off on 71 minutes - six of those touches came from the kick-off.

Arsenal's main man in front of goal went in leading the scoring charts with Mo Salah but while the Egyptian stepped up to the plate with a brace, the pacey striker was anonymous for large parts of the contest.

It is Fulham at home next and with a response required from Aubameyang, pray for the Cottagers defence.
