REVEALED: What Man United loanee Mason Greenwood allegedly said to get sent off

The exact reason behind Mason Greenwood's sending off on Tuesday evening has been revealed after the Man United loanee was given a straight red card for a furious response at not being awarded a foul.

Getafe were beaten 2-0 at home to Rayo Vallecano in a LaLiga clash that saw some 10 cards handed out, including three red cards to the hosts who saw their night spiral out of control.

Juanmi Latasa was given his marching orders for two bookings inside 40 minutes, before the visitors took the lead just before the break, doubling their ascendancy again in added time.

Then on 50 minutes, Greenwood was sent off for dissent, although it was at the time unclear what he had actually said, with Damian Suarez being given a red while off the pitch 20 minutes later for dissent towards the assistant referee.

Now, though, referee Jorge Figueroa Vasquez has reported what he believes Greenwood in fact said in his furious outburst.

Figueroa Vasquez claims that the United loanee said 'F*** you!' to him, which is what prompted the straight red card for dissent.

The official's post-match report reads: 'In the 50th minute the player (12) Greenwood, Mason Will John, was sent off for the following reason: For addressing me in a sign of protest and raising his arm, in the following terms: "F*** you".

'Once sent off, he takes the finger to the temple making a repeated gesture as a sign of disagreement with the decision made.'

Greenwood however reportedly insisted that he was saying 'F***'s sake!' rather than directing the swear word specifically at the referee.

Should Figueroa Vasquez's allegation prove true, then Greenwood could face a ban of up to four games.

Greenwood's spell in Spain has not been ground-breaking, but he has still performed well, scoring five goals in 15 games across all competitions.

He has also provided four assists, with his performances seeing him linked with a permanent move to Getafe at the end of his loan.

The eighth-placed outfit in LaLiga might face competition from Barcelona, though, with the Blaugrana reportedly prepared to offer the English forward the No 10 shirt to sweeten a deal that could reach as much as £40million.

The No 10 shirt is currently being worn by Ansu Fati, who is out on loan at Brighton, which could prove problematic should Barca pursue any deal.

The Catalan giants are also in the middle of a financial crisis that has crippled their transfer activity in recent windows, raising questions over hoe they might afford the sum, while Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Greenwood.

The former England international is currently on-loan in Spain after it was decided he would play no part in Manchester United's immediate future following an internal investigation.

This came after criminal allegations against him for attempted rape, assault and coercive control were dropped. The 22-year-old denied all the charges.
