Sergio Ramos is said to have snubbed last-minute interest from Manchester Unitd, according to reports.

The legendary Real Madrid defender spent the last two years plying his trade at Ligue 1 behemoth Paris Saint-Germain, but failed to find his footing in the French capital.

His departure comes amidst an exodus of the Parisian club's boldfaced names, with the 37-year-old making the move away from Stade de France hot on the heels of Neymar Jnr, Lionel Messi, and Mauro Icardi.

The player became a free agent upon the expiration of his contract at the end of last season, and mulled options from MLS and the Saudi Pro league before inking a new deal with Sevilla.

But one club that failed to pique his interest was Erik ten Hag's side.

As per the Sun, Ramos reportedly rejected a late offer from the Red Devils with such speed that the club were said to be 'upset' by the swiftness of his refusal.

The club had previously been slow to share the terms of the offer with Ramos, eventually trying to sign the defender on a one-year, £73,000-a-week contract.

Instead, Ramos plumped for an emotional return to his boyhood club Sevilla, where he graduated from the academy and started his senior career from in 2004.

Ramos is thought to have taken a major paycut to ensure the fairytale return, and upon signing, he shared that it would have been 'pointless' to choose another club over the Europa League winners.

'I think it was a debt to my grandfather, to my father, to Sevillismo, to (Antonio) Puerta [a former Sevilla player who died in 2007], and many things that have meant a lot,' the player shared. 'I think it was time.'

Man United were prompted into making the move for the former Spain captain following an injury to Raphael Varane at the start of the season.

The Manchester club's burgeoning defensive crisis has seen the side sign veteran defender Johny Evans to a one-year deal to provide coverage after impressing Ten Hag during the team's pre-season campaign.

As well as struggling to recruit in the position, Man United were also unable to move on out-of-favour centre-back Harry Maguire.

The England star was stripped of his captaincy in July after failing to assert himself during the 2022/23 campaign and win a regular place in his Dutch manager's starting XI.
