Sergio Ramos and Marcelo have the opportunity to lift their 23rd trophy as Real Madrid players, as Los Blancos look to win the Supercopa de Espana.
Last year's LaLiga Santander title allowed the duo to pull in front of Manolo Sanchis' 21, so now they can equal Paco Gento's record of 23 titles with success this month.
However, the record comes at a time when both players are in possibly their most difficult time experienced at the club.
Marcelo has lost his place in the starting line-up to Ferland Mendy and has only played seven times, with his level of performance falling far from of his best.
The Brazilian left-back, who has a contract until 2022, has only been on the winning team just twice this season, losing four games and drawing one.
Despite not having any problems on the pitch, Ramos' future at Real Madrid is up in the air. While it is true that almost all Real Madrid's captain's contract renewals have been expensive and have been preceded by a lot of toing and froing on both sides, the club has never been in such an extreme situation with a captain in the past.
Now, with just five and a half months left on his contract, Ramos is able to negotiate with other clubs if he likes.
With the Supercopa semi-final tie against Athletic Club on Thursday, the two players will look to park these problems and enjoy going for a historical record in which they have experienced together.
Although they didn't start their Real Madrid career together, Ramos and Marcelo did start to win trophies at the same time, winning their very first one in 2007 under Fabio Capello.
Their record with Real Madrid is as follows: five LaLiga Santander titles, four Champions League trophies, two Copa del Rey titles, three European Super Cups and four Supercopas de Espana.

Marcelos body type always made it likely that he'd have a fairly early end to his prime compared to many players.
Utter legend though.

just as the article puts it Ramos and Marcelo will surely keep their problems aside and go on to win this one. they have done it time and again in the Champions league, la Liga and a lot of other fantastic titles. athletic are tough but with these two in the line up, real Madrid are always the tougher side to beat any time

It's so sad and disheartened to see player like Marcelo lost his place in the Starting eleven.I wish him well cuz he and Ramos have been consistent and outstanding for the past decade. The world will never forget you Marcelo cuz you have been one of the greatest left back the world has ever produced if not the greatest.
