Rashford & Mount are both out of England's squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers, Gareth Southgate confirms he will not be replacing the players

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount have withdrawn from England’s squad for games against Italy and Ukraine after picking up injuries.

Rashford played 83 minutes of Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Fulham in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-finals before being replaced by Fred after taking a knock.

Mount has also pulled out after missing Chelsea’s last four games with a pubic bone injury.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter had admitted his surprise at Mount’s call-up when Southgate’s selection was announced.

“He’s never been available as far as I am aware,” said Potter.

“He needed a bit of time for his injury to settle down which has pretty much ruled him out of England. Whether that meant they needed a bit of time to double-check that, I don’t know. I don’t think there is anything untoward at all. But from my selection perspective, he wasn’t available for the weekend.”

Goalkeeper Nick Pope has also pulled out of the squad through injury and been replaced by Tottenham veteran Fraser Forster.

Rashford required treatment after taking a knock in Sunday’s win over Fulham, while Chelsea star Mount is continuing his rehabilitation from injury.

Pope is also suffering with a minor injury and is unavailable.

No further replacements are planned and 23 players arrived at St George’s Park on Monday ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy in Naples on Thursday and Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday.
