Nicolas Jackson had a solid reason behind his desire to take the Chelsea penalty that caused a squabble among Blues team-mates on Monday.
Three Chelsea players were embroiled in a physical row before the hosts' fifth goal against Everton at Stamford Bridge, with Noni Madueke and Jackson involved in a squabble that had to be broken up by Conor Gallagher and Malo Gusto.
Cole Palmer took control of the ball and scored his fourth of the game, but afterwards, it became clear why Jackson wanted to get a chance to score his second of the contest.
Jackson scored his 10th Premier League goal of the campaign with Chelsea's fourth on Monday, taking him to 13 in all competitions, as reported by Telegraph Sport.
It means he has equalled the number of league goals scored by Chelsea icon Didier Drogba in his first season with the club - and only three behind the Ivory Coast star's total of 16 in all competitions.
Jackson has set an ambition to score 15 in the league, and 20 goals in all competitions for the Blues before the end of the season next month.
However, his plans to get another on Monday night were halted when he was replaced by Deivid Washington before the final whistle.
Mauricio Pochettino has made it publicly clear that Palmer is Chelsea's designated penalty taker, while Madueke has scored two penalties this term when Palmer was not on the pitch.
Jackson has not taken any penalties so far this season, and is not expected to risk his place in the team or relationship with the Blues' faithful by pushing to take one.
The squabble caused more problems for Chelsea after the final whistle, despite the 6-0 scoreline.
Pochettino was visibly incensed at a bizarre confrontation during his post-match press conference, and took exception at being questioned about the spat.
In his press conference, the manager said: 'First of all, I want to tell you to make clear that they know, the players know, the staff know, the club know, that the taker on penalties is Cole Palmer.
'It is a shame. I am so, so upset about this situation. We are talking in the dressing room about the image that we send because this is Monday night football and in every single country they were watching the game.
'We cannot send this type of image. It is a shame and I want to apologise to football people and our fans because that is unacceptable.'
He went on to say that both Madueke and Jackson would be 'out' if they acted in a similar manner in the future.
Dele Alli, who was a guest pundit on Sky's Monday Night Football, said the feuding players were 'showing their age' over the row.

Jackson & Madueke acted like babies just stopped suckiing feeding bottles. They were lucky they were not playing under Muorhinho, who would have benched them for 6matches. Also, this nonsense wasn't experienced all through when Terry was d captain of the club. The show of shame clearly suggests that poch is not in total control of these boys. We chelsea fans shld NOT witness a repeat of this ugly incident again, Period.

That's bullshit,if he set a goal for himself to achieve,he should work hard towards it,he have missed more than 20 one on one this season this in all competition, had he manage and score at least 60% of the chances,he would have be up there with Haland and Chelsea will be up there as well

That's nonsense reason 😒, he must fight and score him self. and stick to the rules, and respect the process ,because is Palmer a penalty taker.
