Premier League accounts reveal that former chief Richard Scudamore earned over £10million in his final year as executive chairman, which includes £5million by way of farewell payment from all 20 clubs in the league.
According to The Times, Scudamore earned £4.8million in bonuses for his role in securing mega money TV rights deals for 2019-22 alongside the 'golden farewell' of £5million plus his £500,000 salary for his work from August to December 2018.
Despite the value of domestic TV rights deals decreasing, Scudamore earned the huge payday as the value of overseas deals climbed even higher, giving him an increased bonus payment.
The accounts for the year ending July 31 2019 indicate that the 60-year-old raked in £2million of the £5million, added to £1.6million of the TV bonus and his base salary. That leaves a further £6.2million, which he will receive over the course of the next two years.
A huge chunk of Scudamore's wage has come from a 'golden farewell' payment the former chief was given by all 20 Premier League clubs upon his departure.
The payment, of £5million, was the idea of Chelsea chief Bruce Buck, who persuaded the other clubs to agree to provide a contribution of £250,000 each to total the huge payment.
Buck has been a driving force in recent times with the Premier League, and played a substantial role in the calamitous search for Scudamore's replacement.
Former chief executive of the Guardian media group, David Pemsel, had accepted the role but was forced to resign following details of his private life surfacing.
In the meantime, interim chief executive Richard Masters, a popular figure among many clubs in the league, was appointed to the post on a permanent basis.
