Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen agree on Chelsea transfer verdict

Chelsea have spent more than any other Premier League club since Todd Boehly arrived at Stamford Bridge. The Blues' transfer business has been nothing short of remarkable after splashing over £600million on new signings.

Yes, a period of adaptation is expected when new players join the club - but the sheer amount of signings that have been brought into the club may have destabilised the squad completely. Another problem for the west Londoners is that they have failed to correct a key issue by not signing a clinical striker.

Speaking to BT Sport following Chelsea's exit from the Champions League, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand highlighted the problem facing the Blues ahead of the summer transfer window in which they'll need to move on a number of players on huge wages. Ferdinand said: "When they’ve [Chelsea] got players sitting on huge wages, they’ve got three, four, five, some of them even six or seven-year contracts, right, the problem you’ve got is who buys them for a big price and pays that amount of wages they’re on? It’s a difficult situation."

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen weighed in on the discussion by agreeing with Ferdinand about Todd Boehly's issue of moving on players this summer. Owen added: "It’s incredible, isn’t it?

"How much of a mistake they’ve made buying so many players, and it’s going to hit them where it hurts - in the pocket - because now they’re going to have to get rid of players. Some players won’t want to leave so they’ll have to pay them off, it’s been a really expensive mistake."
