Roberto Carlos is one of the secrets behind Castilla's success

Castilla, the Real Madrid B team, are going through one of their best runs of form of the season and one of the factors behind these impressive results has been Roberto Carlos.

The Brazilian took on a role as an assistant coach of Castilla at the time when Manolo Diaz was promoted into the main coaching role to fill the void left behind by Santiago Solari, who was given the first-team job.

The former left-back had been working as a club ambassador and as a commentator for the club's own TV channel, but wanted to try his hand at coaching as well.

While his legendary status is undeniable, those working with him are impressed with his humility and he knows that Manolo Diaz is the top boss and also respects the role of fellow assistant Pedro Sanchez.

"He is a legend, but you don't notice that based on the way he treats people with his happy personality," those close to him say.

Even if he'll get his coaching badges soon, the 45-year-old doesn't yet have them and cannot sit in the dugout for matches, but he watches on from the stands and is in the dressing room before and after matches and also at half time.

His work on the training ground is what those in charge at Castilla really love.

He takes part in some drills with his superb touch and skill and has a knack for noticing which players need a confidence boost after a run of scarce playing time.

Overall, the mood at Castilla is a positive one right now as they try to claim a promotion into the second tier.

So much is going right for the team, and Roberto Carlos is a major reason for the recent success.
