Romano and the Atheltic have both confirmed that after talks with Cristiano Ronaldo's agent Mendes, Chelsea have lost their interests in the Portuguese forward.
Romano wrote on his twitter account:
"Thomas Tuchel has decided against Cristiano Ronaldo signing, as things stand. Jorge Mendes had talks with Todd Boehly but final decision has always been up to the manager. 🔵 #CFC
Chelsea are now focused on different deals - Tuchel isn’t keen on signing Cristiano."
It is understood that the American, part of a group which took over the club in May, raised the prospect of bringing Manchester United’s wantaway star to Stamford Bridge following a meeting with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, in Portugal.
However, following discussions, the decision was made not to pursue the 37-year-old. It is thought that Tuchel wants to focus on the team rather than the individual and believes Raheem Sterling, signed from Manchester City for £47.5m on Wednesday, better fits the bill.
Indeed, there was also a view that the arrival of Ronaldo may have potentially stolen some of the limelight from Sterling, whom Chelsea view as a marquee signing and dressing room leader.
The Portuguese has not joined United on their pre-season tour. He wants to exit the club just one year after rejoining them after they missed out on Champions League football following a laborious, underwhelming campaign.
It is understood that French giants Paris Saint-Germain also rejected the chance to move for the forward, who appears to have limited options. Reports have claimed that a club in Saudi Arabia is offering to pay him £105m a year.
The arrival of Ronaldo would no doubt have given Chelsea a huge, immediate commercial boost, but the decision is thought to have been made for footballing reasons.
Tuchel, who missed out to Barcelona on Leeds United playmaker Raphinha, will soon add defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who was due to complete a £34m switch from Napoli today.
They are also in advanced talks with Manchester City over Nathan Ake and are keen on fellow centre-half Presnel Kimpembe from PSG following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Thomas Christensen.
Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also likely to leave, to Barcelona, but only after defensive reinforcements have been signed, with an addition at right wing-back likely.
New contracts are also on the cards for England pair Mason Mount and Reece James and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Tom Glick, the former Manchester City official, will shortly be announced as new chief executive as Boehly and the Americans continue to make their mark at Stamford Bridge.
Talks are ongoing with a number of candidates for the role of director of football.

OFFICIAL!!! RECORD ALERT!!! Cristiano Ronaldo has set another record after being rejected by Chelsea. The 5 time ballon dor winner has been embarrassingly rejected by Chelsea. Ronaldo 38 was recently told HELL NO by league one giants PSG. There rumors that the self proclaimed goat was also rejected by Bayern Munich, which has made him the most rejected footballer in the history of the game, a record that no player will ever break not even Messi.😂
