Rooney returns to Old Trafford to watch Man United's draw with Tottenham

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was in attendance for his old club's 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday, 12 days after his sacking from Birmingham City.

The former England captain was dismissed by Birmingham earlier this month after just 15 games in charge, during which he won only twice and the club slipped from sixth to 20th in the Championship.

Since Rooney replaced John Eustace in October, Birmingham have had the worst record in the Championship. They took 10 points from a possible 45, losing nine and winning just two.

He was given something to smile about as United took an early lead through Rasmus Hojlund.

However, Richarlison hit back for the visitors before Rashford restored the lead just before half-time.

The second half got off to the worst possible start as Rodrigo Bentancur levelled and the proved to be the final goal of the game.

Rooney is thought to have been on much less than the £1.5million per year salary that was initially suggested, and departed the club along with coach Carl Robinson.

When he was appointed in October to replace Eustace, Birmingham were sixth. He left with Blues only six points above the relegation zone and with the worst record in the division during that time.

This was Rooney 's third job in management. After spells with Derby in the Championship and DC United in Major League Soccer, he was brought back to England charged with bringing a 'no-fear' football philosophy to Birmingham.
