Former Reds striker Robbie Fowler has refused to condemn the Egyptian forward for some of the calls he made during a 2-1 win over Tottenham
Mohamed Salah made some “dodgy decisions” against Tottenham, says Robbie Fowler, but the Liverpool forward has avoided criticism because he is “a goalscorer” and needs a selfish streak.
The Egyptian international found the target on 44 occasions during a stunning debut campaign at Anfield in 2017-18.
He has managed another two efforts this term, but drew a blank in his most recent outing against Spurs.
That was not through a lack of trying, with Salah clearly desperate to get on the scoresheet during a fixture at Wembley Stadium dominated by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He did take those efforts to the extreme at times, with his focus narrowed on the target when team-mates were better placed, but Fowler considers that to be a good thing.
The Liverpool legend told The Mirror: “I’m not going to start condemning the forwards after such a good win. Yes, Salah was probably the worst culprit, and he not only missed a few chances, but also made a couple of dodgy decisions in possession.
“But he’s a goalscorer. He is used to scoring now and he wants to find the net. I know what that’s like, and I can’t criticise him for that. You can’t be moaning at him when the Liverpool forward line took Spurs apart so easily.”
Liverpool should have been well clear by the time Erik Lamela grabbed a late reply for Spurs, with Fowler echoing those who consider Klopp’s side to be serious title contenders.
He added: “It was a performance from Liverpool that had a bit of everything, with very few weaknesses. I noticed Graeme Souness said afterwards he thought it was my old club’s best team since Kenny Dalglish last won the league.
“I’m not going to argue with Souey, because he’s Souey...but you definitely can’t say that unless they win the league.”
Fowler has also supported the view of former Manchester United star Gary Neville, who has suggested that any club – including Liverpool – will find it difficult to challenge for Champions League and Premier League crowns in 2018-19.
He said: “[Pep] Guardiola has great quality at his disposal, he has the knowledge of how to get to Champions’ League finals and he will believe this is the season he can bring the trophy to the club.
“I wouldn’t argue with that, of course, but it’s no formality. It’s so tough to win the Premier League and Champions’ League – I think Manchester United were the last to do it in 2008, so a decade ago.
“I don’t want to echo Gary Neville – no chance of that – but it is actually tough to do both, because teams in different leagues get a much easier ride during the season. But if any club can do it, then it’s this City squad.”

Mane is the culprit he is greedy and needs to pass the ball to main striker when chances occur. Salah is not getting the quality he had last season and has hardly made a differrence so far. Buying swiss was not a good purchase and he eats alone and was useless at Stoke because he never passed the ball.

And how about Mane and Kita selfish style!!! Does they pass to Salah enough when he has better position!!! How many passes he got from Mane this season!!! I don’t defend Salah, but the Mirror itself has an article topic about how selfish was Mane and Kita.

I think Mane is deliberately selfish and sort of envious to Salah..Klopp should play each at a time and not together...it reminds me of The Mighty Ghana of 90s when feuds between AbediAyew Pele and Tony Yeboah cost the national team glory...with this attitude,Liverpool will hurt.

I thought mane was the only selfish player. He preferred to pass the ball to another player even if Salah was in a better position. They shouldn't be selfish among each others if not the attack is going to be weak no individual player can do it alone. Together we stand, divided we fall.

klopp focus on getting the championship, he will interfere less in who will keita passes the ball to or who will be the team top goalscorer, Salah would like to repeat last season # wich will be very hard to do for 3 reasons , the first is that klopp needs results so salah can not be selfish, second mane wants to prove himself as a top scorer and that showed in preseason tournament when he asked for the penalty, third the opposing clubs are all aware of Salah potential so they will double the watch over him .

Looking at his personality, body language and his game ..you cannot even thing he will ever play selfish. He loves the game.He wants to win for his team and not self victories. He will always be the teams man and will score like always. He is the best

Be selfish? No way. Salah is not a selfish person, he works for the team and not for individual. That's what makes him special. He can be a top goalscorer without being selfish.

As much as I hate to say it theyre just not a team to play your best football against, they are so well drilled in attack, Mourinho or Guardiola said it last season that they transition so fast, youve got to sit deep and just wait for them to hopefully run out of steam otherwise youll get picked apart. Even City got smashed 3/3 games (not counting the other as it was 10 men) and they had the best season in Premier League history. Problem is teams want to go for it as thats how they play and then Salah, Firmino and Mane just run around fingering everyone.
Keep the finger outa the opposition eyes though.

The funny thing is, Salah should have had double considering the misses that were easier than some he scored. This is certainly not a complaint, the fact the team generates so many chances is fantastic.

Think he’ll do fine, but not 30+. Mane will pick up more than last year I think though, particularly as Salah is going to be double-covered a lot.
Love your post. You didn’t see hidden agendas.👍🏿

This is very true... Salah will find his form, and the killer instinct is all part of that. It will be very interesting to see how they intend to line up with PSG if Bobbie Firminho is unavailable. His play on and off the ball is a huge reason Salah and Mane have been so successful. He is the most underrated of the 3. His work rate is phenomenal. I tend to agree with Fowler, as he knows what is involved here...intimately YNWA
Not to worry. Bobby will see his way into team.

Mane and Keita were quite selfish. We could have done far better in that match, but those 2 won't play as a team. That should better be checked else it'll be greatly affect out next outing with PSG
Unselfish goal scorer? OK! Suppose they exist.

People say keita was selfish but i dont see that coz its difficult for him to play salah the ball since he plays right behind sadio mane so if he cuts the balls straight to salah otherwise they will be wasteful coz of distance between the 2 so i guess milner was supposed to linkup with salah and keita to mane then they will meet apart to a goal..... Period

at least this is an attacker that understands the ronaldo effect.. U ought to be selfish if you wanna achieve more. every big player does that but cr7 will always be judge by haters .. true facts is Salah needs to become more of cr7 if he really wanna achieve more
