Former Manchester United midfielder Robbie Savage has blasted PMGOL's chief refereeing officer Howard Webb after the Red Devils got lucky against Wolves at the weekend.
In their Premier League clash at Old Trafford, new signing Andre Onana rushed out to claim a cross before missing the ball and taking out two Wolves attackers.
However, referee Simon Hooper did not see an issue with the attempt while VAR Michael Salisbury and assistant VAR Richard West did not intervene.
This led to the trio being dropped from the next round of Premier League fixtures, while Wolves were issued an apology for the mistake after the match.
Writing for the Metro, Savage demanded that Webb be held accountable and slammed PMGOL's apology to Wolves.
He wrote: 'Stuff your apologies – instead of saying sorry every week, referees and VAR officials need to get it right.
'I'm a big fan of PGMOL's chief refereeing officer Howard Webb. He is trying to communicate, be transparent and explain these new rules on timekeeping and conduct in the technical area.
'But unfortunately, there were too many apologies for his officials' blunders last season, and we've started the 2023-24 campaign in a similar, depressing vein. There comes a point where Webb has to be accountable, and Wolves manager Gary O'Neil has every right to feel he got a raw deal at Old Trafford on Monday night.'
The former midfielder, who's son Charlie signed for Reading from Manchester United this summer, continued to blast the decision to book Wolves boss Gary O'Neil for protesting the 'stone-wall' penalty.
'It was an absolute joke that O'Neil should be shown the yellow card for his understandably emotional reaction to the travesty,' he continued. 'Webb's apology to Wolves that they were not awarded a penalty doesn't make any difference.
'The man on the moon could have seen it was a penalty, so why can't a VAR on planet earth? Pathetic. O'Neil's caution then added insult to injury. You can't book a manager for showing emotion and passion on the touchline when his team has been robbed.'
Wolves will be hoping to pick up their first points of the season when they host Brighton this weekend, while Manchester United travel to Tottenham as they seek to make it two wins from two.

but guys who told u that every penalty is a goal?
thats not the issue, its about making the right call and when that is not done then the people responsible must be punished, last season bruno scored an offside goal against city but the goal was made to stand, and in FA cup finals grelish was in the air while the ball brushed through his fingers, var was active enough to use all the microscopes at its disposal to review it and award a penalty, so why must var only work when it comes to some teams n not others, I remember a game where united was called to come n take a penalty by var even after the whistle had gone fo half time

one thing is fr sure, for those who feels that United were favoured we all have seen in uncountable occasions where referees made wrong decisions, in favour of your team or against or all these is because it's Manchester United,?if that's the case then you should learn how to control your feelings, apologies are not needed on ths matter, and i will give you my reason's wth a question, if that incident had happened to United player's would wolves coach be crying to the referees to award United a penalty, the answer is capital ( NO ) there's no professional fc in the that has never been favoured by the referees or never experienced bad officiating frm them, you may hate a particular club or NT but always try to control your feelings and bear in mind also that referees are human who are not above mistake, atimes look at things from that angle and stop crucifying your enemies eve when they have not done anything wrong but just because you hate them, it's wrong, the world belongs to no one but only GOD.

Onana’s incidence was a clear penalty. I’ve said that before the whistle was blown off. Now the officials apologized and got penalized for the fact that it should have been a penalty. Do you know better?
I know better bro

Before VAR, the game’s official makes the difficult decisions and we all stand by it even when TV broadcasters showed the poor decisions made on instant replays. Having so much reliance on technology and yet when the officials made poor decisions, we don’t have to apologise for any poor decisions. It is an acceptable part of the game. By issuing an apology is taking the important part of football, where officials are often hated by fans, players and coaches. Webb is such a wimp and forgotten what it means to be a referee. We might as well have AI to officiate the game instead of have humans running around the field, maybe the teams will end up with on 8 players on the field because the AI will give out yellow and red cards for every foul or poor tackle.

The penalty is a 50/50 decision Var is right not to give it and also var can also be right to give it a PK as well.

But wait oo, is penalty a guarantee to score a goal ladies and gentlemen? It's transparently obvious that United was destined to win the encounter wether the penalty was given or not. And even if the penalty was given and later given and eventually converted it into United back of the net, believe me, Man U will still add another goal in no distance time despite the incident happened at the dying ember of the game. Is like you guys have forgotten so easily on Manchester United tactical approach of winning mentality abi? No one dares God. They play!

When a player messes up on the pitch, displays actions against the rules of the game, he's reprimanded .... These officials costing teams points should also be reprimanded .... missing a game IMO is far too lenient for their fcuk ups. I don't see this as justice....remove them for the year, make a REAL statement.... far too easy for them to fcuk up n nothing happens.... I'm Sorry doesn't cut it Howie. idiots SMFH

big mouth! what happened to Jackson against Liverpool? start understand
well there are hand ball rules. I'm not going to sit here and tell you the ball did not struck Jackson's hand. VAR reviewed it and as they say, Jackson's hand was in natural position as it was situated directly in his chest and closer to his body. He didn't try to make his body wider by opening his arm. Normal position as the rule says was the situation with Jackson's handing of the ball. Anything else?

All of Man United fans playing victim should know that the truth this man speaks today might just work in your favor tomorrow if taken into consideration. Y'all just shut up with hate claims and understand that there's no hate just facts. He's basically pointing out the fact that they had to apologize for an intent, an action that has created the damage already. If not awarding the penalty alone hurts, the booking of the official made it worse. That action alone shows that the referee and FA laws affects the football teams and not the match officials as well. If teams can be punished and fined for errors, so should the referees too.
