Jude Bellingham capped a sparkling display with a goal as England won 3-1 against Scotland in a lively Hampden Park friendly that commemorated 150 years since the sides’ inaugural meeting.
The hosts came into the contest on a wave of positivity, but it was the Three Lions who dominated for long passages of play and they silenced the Tartan Army with a double-blast in three first-half minutes.
Phil Foden opened the scoring when he slotted home Kyle Walker’s cross-shot on 32 minutes, before Bellingham punished Andy Roberton’s howler of a clearance with a low strike shortly after.
The visitors continued to look comfortable until substitute Harry Maguire diverted Robertson’s low cross into his own net on 67 minutes.
There was a brief rally from the hosts but England soon re-asserted their authority with the impressive Bellingham teeing up Harry Kane to make sure of victory nine minutes from time.
England will now return to action on October 13 when they host Australia in another friendly prior to a Euro 2024 Group C qualifier at home to Italy four days later.
Scotland visit Spain in a Group A qualifier on October 12 before a friendly in France.
