Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema's attempted 'pass-penalty' routine goes wrong

Real Madrid might have sealed the LaLiga title, but not everything they did on their way to a 2-1 victory over Villarreal was faultless.

The Galacticos needed just a victory to be crowned champions and that's what they did courtesy of a double by Karim Benzema.

But there was some confusion over his second goal after Sergio Ramos who stepped up to take a penalty kick, rolled the ball to the Frenchman instead of shooting.

What resulted wasn't as bad as Thierry Henry and Robert Pires' infamous effort, but they still failed to pull it off.

Benzema thought he had scored when he sprinted into the box and struck into the bottom corner, but he had set off too early.

The referee ordered for the penalty to be retaken after the Frenchman was already in the box when Ramos deftly rolled the ball.

Real Madrid were handed another chance to double the lead and this time Benzema stepped up and this time did not mess about as he slammed the ball past Sergio Asenjo.

The trick has been pulled off in the past in LaLiga by Barcelona through Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

But even though they messed up the penalty, Real Madrid didn't care as they took the victory and therefore the LaLiga title despite a late consolation goal by Villarreal's Vicente Iborra.

It is the team's first LaLiga trophy in three years and their 34th in total.
