Sheffield Utd trying to keep Man Utd goalkeeper Dean Henderson next season

Sheffield United have expressed their interest in keeping Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson next season, manager Chris Wilder has confirmed.

Henderson is coming to the end of a two-year loan spell with the Blades and his stock has soared as a result of some terrific performances.

The 23-year-old has kept ten clean sheets in the Premier League this season, only Nick Pope of Burnley has kept more, and is expected to travel with England for this summer's European Championship.

Henderson's form has raised questions over his long-term future at United with first-choice shot stopper David de Gea penning a new a contract in September.

Wilder admitted he wants to keep the goalkeeper next year but conceded that decision lies solely with United.

"I have left it with Manchester United," he said. "We have expressed our interest in Dean coming back next year.

"But I don't want to keep pushing that button.

"He needs to focus on a big 10 games coming up and possibly more in the cup and international games too."

Henderson's teammate Billy Sharp conceded the goalkeeper wants to play for Manchester United.

However, he admitted that his preferred destination would be Sheffield United if that isn't possible.

"He wants to come back. He wants to play for Man United, obviously – he's not going to lie – but if he can't do that he wants to play for Sheffield United," Sharp said.

MEN Sport understand Henderson does not want to be a back-up at United next season and is prepared to go out on loan again if he is not promoted to first-choice.
