Luis Suarez was all smiles alongside his three children on Sunday afternoon as he collected La Liga's Player of the Month award for October.

Following injury to Lionel Messi, Suarez assumed responsibility leading the line for Barcelona and has subsequently enjoyed a rich vein of form.

He netted four goals - three of which came in the 5-1 drubbing of Real Madrid in El Clasico - and got two assists during the month as Ernesto Valverde's side showed no signs of struggling without their main man.

With his wife watching on, Suarez posed for photos with the award on the pitch ahead of Sunday's match with Real Betis alongside daughter Delfina, son Benjamin and the youngest child, Lauti.

The 31-year-old ensured the award remained with Barcelona after Messi won the award for the month of September.

But while the pre-match hand-over was amicable and cheery, the day turned sour for Barcelona as they fell to a shock 4-3 home defeat to Betis.

Messi returned to the side following his recent injury and despite hitting a double, the Catalan side, who finished with 10 men, were overwhelmed by the visitors.

Suarez was not able to find the net himself on a frustrating afternoon which concluded with midfielder Ivan Rakitic getting sent off.

Barcelona remain top of the La Liga table after 12 games, now leading Sevilla by a point and a revived Real Madrid by four.
