Sunderland have joined the clubs monitoring Finland international Glen Kamara.

Club scouts watched the all-action 22-year-old former Arsenal midfielder come on as a late substitute during his country's 1-0 win over Estonia on Friday.

Kamara impressed during a 20-minute cameo and almost opened the scoring eight minutes from time only to see his goal-bound shot tipped away for a corner.

Born in Finland of Sierra Leonean descent, Kamara started his career in England with Southend United before moving to Arsenal in 2012. He made his debut three years later against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup but was then loaned out twice — back to Southend and then to Colchester United.

With competition for midfield places fierce, Arsenal released him last year and he was snapped up by Scottish Premiership side Dundee where he has established himself as a first-team regular of great potential.

Derby County, Burnley, Wolves, Celtic and Rangers have all taken notice of his progress in recent months while there have also been enquiries from clubs in the MLS and eastern Europe.

He is in the final year of his contract and has been offered new terms to stay at Dundee but the Scottish club may look to cash-in during January as interest mounts.

Kamara can also discuss a pre-contract with foreign clubs, including those in England,  from January.

Sunderland are third in League One, looking to make a swift return to the Championship, while manager Jack Ross knows Kamara well from his time in Scotland.
