Javier Tebas insists the planned Girona-Barcelona fixture in Miami will "of course" take place, and says he wasn't surprised by Real's letter to the RFEF.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas has insisted that Girona and Barcelona's proposed Primera División fixture in the United States will go ahead, despite opposition from Spain's players' union (AFE) and the Spanish FA (RFEF).
Miami match will "of course" go ahead, says Tebas
Speaking at the Madrid unveiling of Barça footballer Gerard Piqué's reformed Davis Cup tennis tournament on Wednesday, Tebas said that the match, which is scheduled for 26 January in Miami, will "of course" take place.
Asked about the letter sent by Real Madrid to the RFEF in which the club detailed why they are also against the US plan, the LaLiga chief admitted: "It was what I expected."
Real Madrid "cannot agree" to US LaLiga fixture
In the letter, which was published by Spanish radio station Cadena SER on Tuesday, Real said they "cannot agree to one of the games of the League, in which our entity takes part, being played at a neutral venue".
Last month, the RFEF wrote to FIFA, world football's governing body, to outline its reasons for opposing the plan.

The good ol’ US of A has its own league. If they want to bring in Spanish teams now what will happen to David Beckham’s stadium

I wish Valverde just left Messi, Pique, Suarez and other stars at home for that one, they can't make him play them, can they?
They are definitely playing, especially Messi, it will make more people come and more revenue

The USA is only a good destination when Spanish teams are on a pre season tour any other time it is Catalonia politics? Remove the ignorance from your head and look at it from the other marketing and financial angel,it is the reason European teams arrange to play games in USA before a new season kicks off. Playing a competitive league game there makes it even more sensible, people are often scared of change and usually very content in their comfort zone but such people never progress.

Hahahahaha they are going to distribute spanish flags in a game between two pro-independence catalan teams? Is Tebas mad?

Can’t imagine that some of the players would be very happy about this. Maybe one in particular . A certain Pique.

The league has no authority on what the fans do in America. American teams don't really restrict theses things.

Don't take my word for it, heard it through the grapevine, but it's been said that Bruce Springsteen is performing during half time.

Yeah Barca and Girona fans will happily wave the Spanish flags alright, no burning flags or flares at all

If this was a non white country then FIFA would have banned their national team already for politics intervening with football

If they actually wanted to show of Spain, why choose two catalan team, instead of maybe two Madrid teams? Surely they know the fans of both teams wont really love this.

Bit of a contradiction that is it not? No political symbols... 40 thousand Spanish flags.

There is no way these two teams were just “randomly” picked. It has to be a political statement to Catalonia.

Suddenly makes sense why they want these two teams in particular. They don't even care about the American fans, it's one big political stand for Spain.

They're just asking for traveling fans to rip up or even burn those spanish flag
