The Belgium star has been ruled out with a hamstring injury
Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Jan Vertonghen will be ruled out of action until December.
Vertonghen has not featured for Spurs since being substituted with the problem in the 45th minute of a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on 29 September.
He was left out from Roberto Martinez's latest Belgium squad to remain with Tottenham, where the club said they hope he will be fit to make a comeback in around two months.
A statement issued on the club's official website said: "Jan Vertonghen sustained a hamstring injury against Hudderfield Town on 29 September, which has been monitored closely over the past 12 days.
"Further investigation has shown a good initial response to rehabilitation. The Belgium international defender will now continue his recovery with a view to returning to full training by December."
The news will be a blow to the north London side as the Belgian is set to miss the Premier League games against West Ham, Manchester City, Chelsea as well as the Champions League games against PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan.
Jan Vertonghen receives treatment
Furthermore, he would be a serious doubt for the December games against north London rivals Arsenal and the return game to Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Spurs have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League season after gaining 18 points from their opening eight matches but Mauricio Pochettino will need his first-team players fit as they are competing both in Europe and domestically and did not add any players in the summer transfer window.
Pochettino has a litany of injury problems with injuries to key first-team players Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele and Vertonghen.
The games he could miss:
West Ham (A) – October 20
PSV (A) – October 24
Manchester City (H) – October 29
West Ham (A) EFL Cup – October 31
Wolves (A) – November 3
PSV (H) – November 6
Crystal Palace (A) – November 10
Chelsea (H) – November 24
Inter Milan (H) – November 28
Arsenal (A) – December 1
Southampton (H) - December 5
Leicester City (A) - December 8
Barcelona (A) - December 11
