Paul Pogba's current contract at Manchester United runs until the summer of 2021, but there is a clause in that contract that would allow the English side to unilaterally renew it for one further year so long as they maintain the same salary or even improve his wages.
This kind of unilateral extension isn't permitted under Spanish law, but it is allowed in England and is common in the contracts put together by Manchester United and Chelsea.
This means that United can renew the player's contract if they don't sell him this summer.
Many had assumed that the Red Devils would feel pressure to sell the French midfielder when he had just one year left, rather than risk losing him for free in 2021, but the risk is non-existent as a result of this clause.
Pogba's plan was to return from injury and play at Euro 2020, before ideally moving to a European club, preferably Real Madrid in his mind.
Yet United don't have as much pressure to sell him and a satisfactory offer will have to be presented if they're to allow the player to leave Old Trafford.
While 180 million euros was the number floated in the English press last year, the player's price would be a lot lower than that right now.
Yet the ball is in United's court and they don't have as much pressure to sell Pogba as had been believed.

Pogba is the best player we have and he is staying. we might win FA and Europa. and next season might be our season to win the league title, player like him should be in the squad. with him there is now a lot of competition in the midfield. Fred and McTominay can't be drop, Bruno is just another perfect signing, Matic has really step up his game since January, so with Pogba our midfield has grown from weak to strong! A lot of United's opposition don't want Pogba to stay, because facing Pogba and Bruno in that midfield is going be unbearable. Cry if you want hw is staying...
