The goalkeeper who is 'proud' to have conceded Messi's greatest goal

Luis Garcia, the Getafe goalkeeper who conceded Lionel Messi's extraordinary solo goal in 2007, has revealed his pride at having played against the Barcelona star.

In a match at the Camp Nou, a younger Messi picked up the ball inside his own half, dribbled past a number of Getafe defenders and then rounded Garcia before finding the back of the net.

The goal, one of Messi's 644 for Barcelona, is often likened to Diego Maradona's memorable solo goal against England at the 1986 World Cup.

As part of a campaign by Budweiser, Garcia received some beer on behalf of the American beverage company, like many other goalkeepers who have conceded a Barcelona goal to Messi.

"It's impossible to be happy when you concede a goal, but this is recognition of the best player in football history," Garcia wrote on Facebook.

"Time flies and I'm proud to have played against him."
