The odd clause in Neymar’s PSG contract that earns him 6 million euros a year

For different reasons, all of the focus has been on Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi this summer.

Messi joined PSG after Barcelona failed to renew his contract due to financial constraints, taking up the no.30 shirt after an emotion-filled final few days in Catalonia.

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe has made little secret of his desire to join Real Madrid in the future and, with just 12 months remaining on his current deal in Paris, was the subject of two massive bids from the Spanish outfit ahead of the transfer deadline.

Having rejected such high bids, it seems likely that Mbappe will leave on a free transfer next summer, although PSG will be desperately trying to change that.

However, Mbappe staying and Messi joining means that the pair, with fellow superstar Neymar, could well form the best attacking trio in footballing history.

Neymar’s odd clause

With the hullaballoo that surrounded Mbappe this summer, it is easy to forget that Neymar also penned a new deal in France earlier this year. The salary is expected to be hefty, but what is perhaps surprising is an odd clause that has been insterted into the deal.

As per Spanish outlet El Mundo Deportivo, Neymar receives 500,000 euros per month as an “ethical bonus”, which requires him to be “prompt, kind, and available to the fans.”

In addition, they add, this clause prevents the Brazilian from publically criticising the style of play, team selection or club tactics.
