'The pitch was dreadful'- Jorginho on Italy's rough start

Jorginho explained why Italy got off to such a rough start in their 3-1 win away to Armenia. “The pitch was dreadful.”

The Azzurri had to fight back from an early goal in Yerevan against 10-man Armenia, winning with an Andrea Belotti brace and Lorenzo Pellegrini header.

“We’ve seen there are no easy games, Armenia started using their strengths, which are power, pace and chaos, but we slowly started to play our football and took control,” the Chelsea midfielder told Rai Sport.

“We turned it around and I think we deserved the victory. It was a very tough game, but very important three points.

“If you look at it, we pretty much gifted them easy balls in the first 15 minutes with misplaced passes, but it was difficult because the pitch was dreadful.

“The ball squirmed all over the place and it took us a while to get used to it, which allowed Armenia a lot of counter-attacks.”
