The suffering of Messi's son

Millions around the world watched as Lionel Messi wept inconsolably, unable to even speak, as he took the stage to say goodbye to FC Barcelona.

One image which stand out though, and may have gone unnoticed by some, was the that of his eldest son Thiago watching his father speak about the club he loves.

It was clear to see that Thiago was deeply affected by the emotion shown by his father - he was suffering along with his dad. As Messi broke down in tears, and applause broke out around the room, his son lowered his head and covered his ears.

Messi didn't want to leave the club, and Thiago didn't want his dad to suffer, nor to leave the team or the city.

Later, however, when he saw his father happier, composed and relieved Thiago's mood also improved.

All Thiago Messi has ever known is his dad playing in the colours of Barcelona, but now it's time for change. The Messis are starting a new adventure together.
