Speaking to the press ahead following his official unveiling as France U21 manager, Thierry Henry spoke about Paris Saint-Germain’s 17-year-old star Warren Zaïre-Emery. At a press conference attended by GFFN, the Frenchman was coy on whether the young midfielder would be selected for his squad, but praised the PSG man’s physical qualities.

“I’ve followed him for a long time,” began Henry when asked about Zaïre-Emery, “you always have players who are ahead in terms of their understanding of the game”. The Frenchman then praised his compatriote’s physicality, adding “to see a player like that so young, to be so ready for the physical impact, is exceptional.”

Henry was evasive on whether he would be calling up Zaïre-Emery to his U21 side, but instead explained that he would have to talk with managers of other age groups before coming to a decision, “We need to talk to everyone, we need to take care of him.”

In another PSG-related response, Henry chose not to answer whether he held talks with the club from the French capital over an assistant coach job earlier in the summer. “I can’t confirm that, sorry.”
