Three reasons why Adrien Rabiot's Barcelona move has fallen through

Adrien Rabiot faces an uncertain future after falling out of favour at Paris Saint-Germain - and now a potential move to Barcelona has fallen through for a number of reasons.

The France international is out of contract this summer and his refusal to agree a new deal has seen him exiled at the Parc des Princes.

Contract negotiations with PSG broke down at the end of 2018 and his mother and agent, Veronique, even claimed her son was being held "hostage" by the French champions, and treated 'like a prisoner’.

That seemingly confirmed his Paris exit this summer and Barcelona have been among the teams who were keen on signing the talented playmaker.

However it seems that move has collapsed and Mundo Deportivo have reported three main reasons why Rabiot will not sign for the Nou Camp giants.

The first is that Barca are no longer prioritising the signing of a ball-playing midfielder following the imminent arrival of Frenkie de Jong.

The Ajax midfielder agreed a summer switch back in January and his £65million arrival looks a bargain following his recent exploits for both club and country.

The midfielder helped Ajax reach the Champions League semi-finals and also played a key role as Holland finished runners-up to Portugal in the Nations League finals.

Barcelona were also put off by Rabiot's demands that he did not want to play as a defensive midfielder, and have seemingly decided that he could cause unrest in the dressing room.

The third and final reason is the player's mother, who reportedly demanded a higher signing-on bonus than initially agreed.

Barca ultimately decided that Rabiot's demands, and the recent performances of De Jong, mean that signing a midfielder is no long top of their summer plans and they will focus their priorities elsewhere.
