Tottenham fan that attacked Aaron Ramsdale is likened to Jay Cartwright from the Inbetweeners

Football fans on Twitter believe that the supporter seen kicking Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in Sunday's north London derby looks like fictional TV character Jay Cartwright, from the comedy series 'The Inbetweeners'.

Following a tense and feisty derby encounter, tensions spilled over after a Tottenham fan was filmed kicking the England goalkeeper, and many have been quick to claim that the supporter in question bears a resemblance to the character.

Tottenham are set for an FA and police probe after the ugly scenes after the whistle on Sunday, with Ramsdale in particular left incensed by events, at the end of a game that saw Richarlison involved in not one, but two separate altercations.

The fan took to Twitter to share a side-by-side image of the offending Spurs fan and the popular Inbetweeners character to prove their point, as well as a fake caption in the style of the character - who is known for his over-exaggerated stories.

It reads: 'Can't go down Spurs no more. Banned aren't I. Last time I was there for the North London Derby I ended up having a straightener with Aaron Ramsdale. Took his head clean off with a roundhouse kick.'

Footage emerged of the supporter making their way over several rows of fans in the home end of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the final whistle.

With Ramsdale heading back towards his goal to pickup his water bottle, the supporter took their frustration out on the ex-Bournemouth stopper by mounting the barriers between the pitch and fans and launching a kick at him.

The fan was then shoved back into the stands by stewards, who were quickly called upon to separate an ensuing melee on the pitch, which involved numerous players from both sides.

The video from a fan's perspective then shows the supporter crawling back over the rows of seats to make a quick escape, pulling a scarf over their face, in an attempt to perhaps obscure their identity.

Although football fans on Twitter have unsurprisingly wasted little time in making fun of events, Arsenal keeper Ramsdale was understandably less amused by what took place.

'A fan tried to jump over and give me a little punch in the back. Its a shame because its just a game of football at the end of the day,' he told Sky Sports after the game.

'Thankfully nothing too bad happened.'
