Van de Ven's Maddison claim

Micky van de Ven has revealed what he was told by both James Maddison and Yves Bissouma ahead of his home debut for Tottenham. The Netherlands international was signed by Spurs in the summer from Wolfsburg and he has been thrust straight into Ange Postecoglou's starting XI.

Ahead of the north Londoners welcoming Sheffield United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Premier League action, van de Ven revealed what he was told by an influential Spurs duo. "My first time at home was a huge game for Spurs, against United, I spoke with [James] Maddison and [Yves] Bissouma before, and they said to enjoy the moment,” he explained.

“Then we came on the pitch and everybody was singing and I was like 'what is going on here?!' - it was amazing. You want to enjoy the moment so much, but because I was so focused on the game I couldn't really take it all in.

“But when I saw the video afterwards, you just felt it in the team and the stadium - it was crazy! The atmosphere is incredible and the fans are really good, I hear them singing my song which is really cool and something I enjoy as a player."

Bentancur injury boost

The 26-year-old has stepped up to be a key star among the ranks at Spurs, joining the club in January 2022 from Italian side Juventus. The move itself only cost £15million, with the possibility of a few add-ons that may rise it towards £21million, which could be viewed as a bargain.

However, he has unable to play for a number of months, but that could soon change as he was spotted back in training recently that prompted questions to be asked to Ange Postecoglou over an update on the midfielder.
