Trent Alexander-Arnold insists the midfield role he played for England in Friday night's win over Malta feels "comfortable and natural".
Gareth Southgate's side edged closer to Euro 2024 qualification with the 4-0 victory as the Three Lions prepare to take on North Macedonia on Monday at Old Trafford.
The Liverpool star saw his role change in Jurgen Klopp's system towards the end of the season as he was seen coming inside more and influencing the play from the middle of the pitch.
Alexander-Arnold starred for England in a rare start as Southgate selected the Reds man in a midfield trio, alongside Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and West Ham skipper Declan Rice.
The 24-year-old said after the match when asked if he could make a permanent switch to the middle: "I don't know, potentially. It is still early doors and I haven't played this position too often, but it feels comfortable and natural - it is somewhere I enjoy playing and somewhere I can see myself playing.
"For me, it is about getting into this team and being a regular name on the team sheet and I think today was a good foundation to build on."
Alexander-Arnold superbly smashed England's second into the top corner from around 25 yards. He believes a "new avenue" may have opened for him in the national side.
"I think regarding England, the manager's always try and find a way to fit me into the team, but with the quality of the players in that position that I play in, it is difficult to find that," Alexander-Arnold added.
"But in the role I'm playing at club football, it's definitely opened a new avenue for me and hopefully it's an option he wants to use a lot. It's still early doors, it's only one game but it is just about making sure that when I get the opportunities I take it."
