Troy Deeney: Ronaldo should join WOLVES if he returns to the Premier League

Troy Deeney can see five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo lining up for Wolves in the future if the Juventus star ever returns to the Premier League.

The 35-year-old Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Turin in recent weeks with reports emerging that Juve want rid of the superstar.

Paris Saint-Germain has been mooted as a possible destination but Watford striker Deeney has thrown Wolves' hat into the ring should he come back to England.

'I think I was more looking at a club like Wolves with the Portugal connection. That would probably work,' he told talkSPORT.

'Whoever is getting him is getting an unbelievable talent. This season I think six in four he has already got in Serie A. You are not going to get the same Ronaldo you had at Manchester United. I think that's always going to be the comparison.

'You are still going to get goals from Ronaldo and you are still going to get goals from [Gareth] Bale – that's going to be the forefront of everyone's mind is he to that level?

'If he is available, I would be very surprised if there wasn't a top-10 club trying to sign him in the Premier League.'

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, the majority of his staff and eight members of the first-team squad are from Portugal. Rui Patricio, Ruben Vinagre, Ruben Neves, Daniel Podence, Joao Moutinho, Pedro Neto, Vitor Ferreira and Fabio Silva are the club's Portuguese contingent.

While Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes, whose Gestifute agency represent Nuno and seven Wolves players, also has Ronaldo as one of his clients. The Wolves squad also signed off on the design for their new Portugal-style kit this season.

Deeney also believes Ronaldo is the type of signing a club like Wolves, who finished seventh last season, should be aiming for as he backed them to soon challenge for the top six in the Premier League.

'I like Wolves. It is the odd one out [compared to the clubs Ronaldo has played at]. If he went to America and went to LA Galaxy. We would go "oh, that's a bit strange," Deeney added.

'I think Wolves are creating something there with the players that they have where they will push for the top six in the next few years.

'Then, of course, as I said the Portugal connection and there are so many positives. If you want to go to the next level then that's the player you need to go for.'

Ronaldo, whose deal at Juve expires in the summer of 2022, currently earns £28million per year in Turin and the Serie A giants are reportedly looking to clear the huge salary off their wage bill.
