UCL and UEL finals could be all-English affairs once again

Both the Champions League and Europa League quarter-finals are over and the possibility of all four European finalists coming from the Premier League is anything but unlikely.

Despite Liverpool being eliminated at the hands of Real Madrid, both Chelsea and Manchester City have progressed to the Champions League semi-finals after knocking out Porto and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Meanwhile, Arsenal put in a dominant display to eliminate Slavia Prague, with Manchester United also clinched a spot in the Europa League semi-finals after knocking out Granada.

Four Premier League sides in the European finals again?

Back in 2019, England became the first country to have four sides in the two major European finals after both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur qualified for the Champions League final, while Chelsea took on Arsenal in the Europa League final.

In a game that was disputed at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, the Reds beat Mauricio Pochettino's side 2-0 to lift their sixth Champions League trophy, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

Meanwhile, the English capital of London became the first-ever city to have three sides participating in European finals in the same season.

Chelsea faced Arsenal at Baku's Olympic Stadium, where Olivier Giroud and Pedro Rodriguez scored one apiece, with Eden Hazard netting a brace to help the Blues to a 4-1 victory over the Gunners, who had pulled one back through Alex Iwobi with the score at 3-0.

Can Guardiola win his first Champions League trophy since his Barcelona days?

Pep Guardiola has not reached a Champions League final since his time at Barcelona, whom he led to European success both in 2008/09 and in 2010/11.

With Manchester City facing Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals this year, Guardiola's men could clinch a ticket to the final, where they may face Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel's side will first have to knock out 13-time Champions League winners Real Madrid, who have bounced back from criticism in the early part of the season to reach the final four.

Are Premier League sides the favourites to win the Europa League?

Labelled as frontrunners to win the Europa League this season, Manchester United will face Roma in the semi-finals after the Italian side knocked out Ajax in the previous round.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will come up against former coach Unai Emery, who is in charge of an impressive Villarreal side, who themselves are yet to lose a game in the competition.
