Alaves already know what it's like to beat Real Madrid this season. The Basque club took all three points in their first fixture against Real Madrid this term when they ran out 2-1 winners at Valdebebas.
Sergio Ramos was missing that day after picking up an injury on international duty. This meant Nacho and Raphael Varane made up the central defensive partnership.
In the return fixture against Alaves, we're set to see a partnership of Varane and Eder Militao as Ramos is out with a knee injury and Nacho is in COVID-19 isolation.
This isn't a defensive pairing that will fill Zinedine Zidane with confidence. On the last three occasions that Varane and Militao have played in central defence together, Real Madrid have lost.
The most recent was the 3-2 loss at Shakhtar Donetsk, then before that there was the 1-0 defeat to Cadiz when Militao came on for the injured Ramos for the second half, and the time before that was the 2-1 loss to Manchester City at the end of the last Champions League season.
They have only started seven games together at Los Blancos and the first was a sign of what was to come as they fell 3-0 to Paris Saint/Germain in the first group stage match of the 2019/20 Champions League.
They have won four of the seven games started together, beating Alaves last year, Sevilla, Getafe and Club Brugge.
Zidane will be hoping for improvement this weekend and for another victory over Alaves with the Frenchman and the Brazilian at the heart of the defence.

I agree he had a bad run of form which did cost us a few match but he came back to his original fan. He is now performing very good, it's just the lack of finishers which is preventing us from winning
