Vardy 'will NOT play for England at Euro 2020' despite leading PL scoring charts

England will reportedly not consider Jamie Vardy for this summer's European Championship unless they face a major injury crisis.

Following news that Harry Kane would be out of action until April after tearing his left hamstring while playing for Tottenham, there were calls to bring Vardy out of international retirement.

Vardy has been firing on all cylinders so far this season for Leicester - he currently sits top scorer in the Premier League with 17 goals, three ahead of Marcus Rashford, Danny Ings and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But according to The Athletic, regardless of Vardy's form and availability, Gareth Southgate is highly unlikely to call upon the 33-year-old unless England suffer a major fitness crisis.

However, if Kane was ruled out of Euro 2020 completely and Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham suffered a big injury, then England's stance may change regarding Vardy.

Following Vardy's decision to call a day on his international career, Southgate has looked to the future and will prioritise Tottenham striker Kane - who is expected to be fit in time - as well as the likes of Abraham, Marcus Rashford, Callum Wilson and Ings.

Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also in contention for a spot in the Three Lions squad after impressing for the Toffees.

With Abraham - who has 13 Premier League goals to his name - back-up to Kane, Rashford preferring to play centrally and Ings set for a call-up after shining for a resurgent Southampton, there is little chance of Vardy featuring in the summer.

The report claims that as it was Vardy's choice to retire from international football, the FA hold the stance that the Leicester man needs to show a real appetite to return to the England fold and there has been little sign of that so far.
