Vitesse 1-0 Tottenham: An already-complicated season got even worse for Spurs

An already-complicated season got even worse for Tottenham on Thursday evening as they fell to a humbling 1-0 defeat to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.

A single strike from Maximilian Wittek deep into the second half was enough to seal the win, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo's side closing out the first round of fixturess sitting third in their group with a win, a loss and a draw to their name.

Spurs took to the field with a second-string size on the night, and their XI including Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso. The Spaniard was the standout player on the night for the Premier League side.

But the first half had little in the way of chances. Bryan Gil came close to opening the scoring at the beginning of the second half as he crashed the crossbar from outside the box.

Spurs then went on to concede as Wittek beat Pierluigi Gollini to finish off a nice team move.

From then, Spurs had no response and left the Netherlands with nothing to show for their trip.

Vitesse sit second in the group with six points, two more than Tottenham.
