The Dutch club sold the teenager to Ajax for a euro in 2015, but reserved 10% of his future transfer and will receive a windfall which will eclipse their annual budget.
According to 433, a few years ago, Ajax paid Willem II the princely sum of one euro for a player in their youth team - Frenkie de Jong. The teenager started out with the reserves, Jong Ajax before making his first team debut in September 2016.
De Jong off to Barcelona
Since then the young midfielder has gone from strength to strength - signing a transfer deal with Barcelona earlier this week which will be made effective from 30 June. The Catalan club will pay Ajax a fixed transfer fee of 75 million euros plus a further 11 million in add-ons.
And 433 add that when they sold De Jong three and a half years ago, Willem II withheld a 10% stake in any future transfer of the player, which means they stand to receive 7.5 million euros (or 6.4 million euros as 433 understand it). In any case, the Dutch side are set to receive a fee in excess of their annual budget. A bit of business which at the time might have seemed crazy by the club who currently sit ninth in the Eredivisie, could turn out to be highly profitable.

I thought he was from Ajax Academy.
He played for RKC Waalwijk and Willem II and then Ajax bought him on 2015 at the age of 18. Then they placed him on loan at Willem II for a half year and after that he played the other half year at young Ajax . On september 2016 Frenkie de Jong made is debut for Ajax in the dutch cup. His first match for Ajax in the dutch league was on February 2017. So he is a Willem II product and not a Ajax product. He only will have played 2 season for Ajax at the end of this season.

Its smart, great business mind by Willem II. They could never ever sold Frenkie de Jong for 7.5M to Ajax or any club, so they added 10% transfer fee to the contract if Ajax sold Frenkie. They know Ajax gets alot of money for there players and this way they could get more money. 🤓🤑
