Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Paco Buyo feels that the criticism towards VAR is unfair and that, had it been around in his day, Real Madrid would have two more LaLiga Santander titles in their trophy cabinet.
Los Blancos famously missed out on the league title two years in a row on the final day of the 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons in Tenerife, and Buyo feels decisions went against his side on both of those occasions.
"Now that the refereeing controversy is fashionable, one should remember that, if VAR existed [back in the day], Real Madrid would have won two more LaLiga titles in Tenerife," he told Radio MARCA.
Buyo acknowledged former Barcelona coach Johan Cruyff's impact job, but still feels that he was lucky to win some of his silverware.
He referred to the penalty of Deportivo's Miroslav Djukic against Valencia which would've won his side the title but instead was saved and resulted in Barcelona being champions in 1993/94.
"No one is going to discuss the impact of [Cruyff's] arrival as coach, but we must remember that he won four league titles, one determined by Djukic's penalty and two others by events in Tenerife that I have already mentioned."

These Madrid fans won’t even acknowledge what right in front of their eyes. Even if zidane kills a person I’m sure they’ll ignore it and defend him.
