Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has opened up on his difficult 2021-22 season at Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old American has stated that a return to the national team is a nice change of atmosphere following his struggles in England.
Pulisic made a late start to the campaign after suffering from COVID-19 and then from an ankle injury. The American international only made a return to first-team action in November. Due to Chelsea's quality and depth in attack, Thomas Tuchel has utilized Pulisic in various positions including wing back, false nine and on either flank.
The winger has opened up on his slow start to the 2021-22 season and compared Chelsea to the US national team. He said:
"I would say there's yeah there's two sides of me, you know, especially when people ask you how you are sometimes there's the soccer side and then there's the personal side. So the personal side is even more important for me and I'm doing all right in that sense."
He added:
"But yeah it's a lot sometimes. It's always when I come to the national team, it's how are things at Chelsea? How, what's this? What's that? And yeah things are tough, it's tough. It's been difficult at times, but I'm always very excited to come back with the national team and sort of step away and get to enjoy."
Pulisic started to feature a lot more often under Tuchel last month. However, the former Borussia Dortmund wonderkid has been benched for the Blues' last two league matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.
As things stand, the American has made 19 appearances for the Premier League giants across all competitions and has contributed three goals and three assists.
Chelsea are in with a chance of silverware in February
Chelsea could win as many have two pieces of silverware in the month of February. The Blues have made it through to the final of the Carabao Cup after securing a 3-0 aggregate win over Tottenham in the semi-finals.
Thomas Tuchel's side will now face Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in the final on February 27 at Wembley Stadium.
Also by virtue of being the current European champions, the Blues will compete in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE. They will enter the competition in the semi-final stage on February 9 and will be favorites to lift the title.

I didn't read the article but this guy was given more than enough chances when lukaku and co were out, he's just an on and off player.

and this is why u don't win smaller teams like brighton. u play too defensive, and the match ends up being a draw.

I love this guy, but to be frank he is not the same ever since he got the hamstring injury against Arsenal during Lampard reign. I feel like he is limiting his efforts to protect from injury. He should be confident and I'm pretty sure he can be starting ix

Pullisic is a very soft player. Skills?...sure he got that but his lack of durability and strength is what's undermining his game at Chelsea. EPL is different from American competition. He will need to bring more to the pitch in England.

As u said any way. But ur coach is too defensive. Chelsea have enough good players to challenge Liverpool and City offensively but always afraid to take his game to them. Go and check the statistics against Liverpool and especially against city. playing 7 defensive-minded players in a match?
U r absolutely right., We have a lot of talent in attack but TT prefer to defend literally in every match., Thatβs his style of play anyway but to keep playing ur style knowing u have less defenders to do the job is my only problem,. He has confused the boys , other r now forgetting hw to play as a wingers (like Odoi in last match , he forget hw to derive the ball forward he kept taking the ball back when ever he is pressed) which is the problem we going to suffer ππ€¦π½ββοΈ.

honestly I am big fan of Pulisic but of recent I am not happy with his situation at chelsea.his confidence has dropped, and I see him suffering mentally.i noticed he usually feel free and better while in the national team. TT needs to change all these player mentality. one of the issue with TT is that he doesn't make those players feel confident by not making sub on time or not even made sub up to the number of players allowed to sub in a match.this means u don't have confidence in them.that needs to change on time before it is too late.

Alonso is our only wingback he need rest 2nd chalobah has so many injuries it's not wise to use him then sarr is a b team player . In this game Reece to get injuries . Fabinho has played as defender for Liverpool when they have injury problem . In crisis coaches need to do these

It's not true. Am seeing 4 defenders here. And Chelsea also had Alonso, Sarr and Chalobah on bench.

so what u want us to do if all our wing back are injured and there is no one to play in that position due to covid and injuries . After chilwell injury many players played in wing back so it's for the team he has to take it

Another unhappy Chelsea player. A good attacking midfielder who was turned wing-back by Tuchel. Imagine if it were Mourinho who turned Odoi and Pulisic into wing-backs?
