The Ballon d'Or awards ceremony, held tonight at the London Palladium, is currently underway. In addition to selecting the best male and female players from the past season, a series of individual and team awards will be presented. This is a true celebration for the entire international football community.

Midway through the ceremony, a segment was dedicated to commemorating legendary players who have passed away. Tributes were paid to Kevin Keegan, a Ballon d'Or winner who played for and won titles with Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Hamburger SV; condolences were also extended to the family of young South African player Jayden Adams; and the audience paid their respects to the relatives of Franco Baresi, the legendary AC Milan captain, with the entire theater rising to applaud.

Baresi was also remembered by Thierry Henry: "An Italian football and Milan legend: he redefined the center-back position and is one of the greatest players in history. A true legend, he will be missed but not forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."
