Match Report

Bayern are now unbeaten in their last 28 top-flight home matches against Wolfsburg (won 26, drawn two), no team has faced an opponent at home so often without losing.

After Leroy Sane had hit the crossbar early on, Goretzka fired Vincent Kompany's side ahead in the 20th minute with a fine effort that struck the woodwork on its way in.

But the hosts' lead lasted just four minutes when Mohammed Amoura fired the ball beyond Manuel Neuer for his seventh Bundesliga goal of the season.

Bayern, however, restored their advantage six minutes before the interval when Michael Olise struck from distance, with his strike squirming past Kamil Grabara.

The league leaders kept their foot on the gas after the break and were rewarded when Goretzka nodded home his second of the day after being picked out by Olise.

Wolfsburg set-up a nervy finish when Amoura grabbed his brace following an excellent run from substitute Tiago Tomas, but Bayern were able to hold on for the win.

Data Debrief: Bayern march on

Ahead of kick-off, Kompany lauded Bayern's hunger to avenge last season's first trophyless term since 2011-12, and he will have been impressed by his side's display.

Bayern ended the contest with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.86 from their 25 attempts, while their hosts could only muster a measly 0.59 from their seven shots.

While Goretzka was the hero with his goals, the German did not neglect his defensive duties. He won more duels (six) for Bayern than any of his team-mates, while only Dayot Upamecano (96.6%) had a better passing accuracy than Goretzka (96.5%) of those who started the game.
