FC Bayern beat Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in Thursday’s Telekom Cup.

Match Report

Thomas Frank's Spurs were dominated virtually from start to finish, conceding 26 shots overall, including 15 in the first half, just six days before they face European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Harry Kane handed Bayern an early lead against his former club. Kane missed a penalty and Munich created a number of presentable chances, but further goals refused to come before half-time. Kingsley Coman, Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare made sure the scoreline reflected the balance of play in the second half.

Bayern were dominant in the first half. Tottenham resorted to a foul to stop the charging Olise, who took the ensuing free-kick himself and fired just wide. Kimmich’s free-kick soon found Goretzka in the box, but he aimed too high. Munich’s pressure was rewarded when Olise’s forensic pass found Kane, who shone with a fine first touch before blasting into the low corner of the net.

FCB loanee João Palhinha upended Stanišić in the box minutes later, but Kane miscued the ensuing penalty. Richarlison warmed Neuer’s gloves before Díaz saw a shot blocked and Goretzka had an effort saved. Neuer denied Richarlison, with Goretzka firing over at the other end before he sent a volley wide. A Kane pass evaded Coman and Bayern were one up at half-time.

The pattern was similar after the restart and chances came and went for Olise. Laimer fired over but soon won the ball in Tottenham’s half and teed up Coman, who cut inside and found the top left corner of the net to make it two.

Vincent Kompany shuffled his deck now, with Neuer and Díaz the only survivors, but the German record champions refused to ease off. Bischof saw an effort saved, but Lennart Karl’s sumptuous curler soon found the far corner of the net. Hotspur failed to clear the ball minutes later and Jonah Kusi-Asare unleashed the next fine curler to make it four and round off an impressive display.
