The former Bayern Munich captain questions the market planning and warns about the lack of attacking alternatives.

The transfer market activity carried out so far by Bayern has not entirely convinced one of the club's legends, Lothar Matthäus. In statements to 'SportBild', the former German international was critical of the arrival of Luis Díaz from Liverpool.

The signing of Luis Díaz, a 28-year-old player whom Liverpool wanted to sell because he wasn't renewing, for 75 million euros, doesn't seem like a big deal to me. The Colombian has speed and quality, and he can replace Leroy Sané, but if the club were honest with itself, it would admit that he wasn't the first choice. After Nico Williams, Rafael Leão, and Jamie Gittens, Luis Díaz was actually number four on the list of targets. And I don't see a true replacement for Harry Kane; it's a risk," he said.

For Matthäus, the absence of a forward who can replace the Englishman is a key shortcoming that could affect the team at crucial moments of the season. Still, in the fight for the Bundesliga, he is clear: "Only Borussia Dortmund is a credible rival. If Bayern doesn't complicate its life with internal problems, BVB won't pose a real threat."

The former footballer added that the final assessment of the season will mainly depend on the performance in the Champions League, a competition in which the Bavarian club hopes to regain prominence after several campaigns without reaching the final.
