Betting Tips: Germany vs Russia

The 2014 World Cup winners are badly out of form and we are opposing a high scoring game when 2018's hosts visit in Thursday evening's friendly match

Germany's penultimate match of a disastrous 2018 is a friendly against Russia in Leipzig.

There is considerable pressure on manager Joachim Low following their extremely poor defence of the World Cup, with the side showing no signs of reaction in their matches subsequent to the tournament.

Two defeats from their three UEFA Nations League matches has left them facing relegation from League A, while their opponents this week are aiming for promotion.

Despite their poor run, Germany are priced at 2/7 (1.29) with SportPesa to record what would be only their fourth win of the year.

Russia have suffered just one defeat (in 90 minutes) in their last ten matches in all competitions and are available at a healthy looking 9/1 (10.00) with the draw offered at 4/1 (5.00).

Both Jerome Boateng and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen have been left out of the Germany squad. Toni Kroos will not feature against Russia and will join the squad ahead of the Nations League clash with Netherlands, whilst Julian Draxler has left the squad on compassionate leave.

Russia are without injured captain Artem Dzyuba.

Germany have kept only one clean sheets in the 11 matches they have played in all competitions in 2018, and their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Netherlands last month was indicative of their lack of defensive solidity.

However, perhaps against a Russia side missing their most dangerous attacking player, the 2014 world champions could improve their defensive record.

With Germany devoid of confidence and Russia not the most prolific side, there could be an argument for opposing goals.
