Bournemouth boss hails teen goalkeeper Mark Travers after man-of-the-match debut

Eddie Howe saluted teenage debutant Mark Travers after his man-of-the-match display helped Bournemouth to their first Premier League win over Tottenham.

Goalkeeper Travers, 19, starred in the first half, producing a string of excellent saves to keep Bournemouth level before Nathan Ake's injury time match-winning header.

Manager Howe said: 'It was a great display. He's someone we really do believe in.

'He's got a great temperament, a great attitude. He played today like it was a training session and that's a huge compliment.

'He has real confidence with his feet, kicked the ball well, obviously made the saves but his all-round game management was hugely impressive.'

Irish youngster Travers was making his professional debut having only previously played senior football for Southern League Weymouth.

Howe added: 'It's unusual he has been out on loan and experienced League Two or League One, or a League Cup game or anything. That was the risk we took.

'But going on his training and how he's conducted himself all season and the club that we are. We have to give players the opportunity.

'The only way you are going to develop players is to play them. That's why we decided to do what we did.'

Bournemouth made hard work of breaking down Spurs after they went down to nine men and Howe added: 'It looked like we were going to run out of time to win the game but thankfully we popped up with a great goal at the end.'
