Borussia Dortmund are pushing to convince Marcus Rashford to join them on loan after more talks on Thursday.
Rashford was left out of United's squad again on Thursday night as they secured a dramatic 3-1 comeback win against Southampton.
The England international's brothers have held further talks with AC Milan and Barcelona also.
The development comes after the 27-year-old admitted in a bombshell interview last month that he is ready to leave his boyhood club, and he has not played under Ruben Amorim since. Rashford made just one matchday squad in the past month.
Reports in Germany this week confirmed Nuri Sahin's side's desperation to bring in reinforcements in January after a dismal first half to their campaign.
They currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga and, after selling Donyell Malen to Aston Villa, are now keen on bringing Rashford in during the window.
Last season, Dortmund secured a short-term loan for Jadon Sancho after he, similarly, fell out of favour with Red Devils chiefs.
Milan remain in the frame to sign the winger on a short-term basis. Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently confirmed his side's efforts to sign Rashford, saying: 'I know Marcus well, I played with him when he was young.
'It is not an easy operation, but we have not spoken to him yet. We’ll see if we will speak to him'.
However, the club will have to make a decision over which England star they want to bring in, due to some Serie A registration rules, after also registering their interest in Kyle Walker.
The club have just one spot remaining in their squad for a British player following a change in regulations after Brexit.
Restrictions say Italian teams can only bring in two non-EU squad members each year, with one bonus English or Albanian ace permitted.
Elsewhere, Napoli continue to discuss a move for United's Alejandro Garnacho but are so far reluctant to meet the £65m valuation.
