England? Denmark? Germany? Monaco’s proflific Biereth evokes future

Mika Biereth (22) has hit the ground running at AS Monaco. Since making the move from Sturm Graz for €13m at the start of January, the centre-forward has 10 goals in just seven Ligue 1 games, including three hat-tricks at the Stade Louis II.

In doing so, he has become the first player in 70 years to score three hat-tricks in his first 10 games in Ligue 1, whilst he is also the top-scorer in Europe’s top five divisions in 2025 with 10 goals. “It is impressive what he did again tonight,” said Adi Hütter after Biereth’s latest hat-trick saw off Stade de Reims (3-0).

His recent form has raised questions about his international future. The former Arsenal forward is eligible to represent four countries: Denmark, England, Germany and Bosnia. Thus far, he has represented Denmark, albeit only at youth level.

“Coming here and being here a month and a half, I didn’t think these were questions that were going to be asked then but you know, they seem to be getting asked now,” began Biereth in a mixed zone interview, attended by Get French Football News.

He added, “As soon as you’re doing well in club football, international football takes care of itself. I am going to keep working hard for my club. I am in a unique situation. Not many are eligible to represent four countries. Not four random countries either. My mum was born and raised in Bosnia, my dad is half-Danish, half-German and I have lived in England so it is a unique situation.”

It has been a strong start to life at the Stade Louis II for Biereth, who has himself been surprised at his prolific last six weeks. “I don’t think anyone expected me to start as well as I have started. But, credit to the team, the coaching staff and everyone around me for making me feel so comfortable coming in,” said the Danish youth international.

With the international break coming up, Biereth may soon have to make a decision regarding his international allegiance.
